Abstract

Objective: To analyze the results obtained in our institution of osteosynthesis with plate in fractures of the middle third of the clavicle
Material and methods: an observational study of a retrospective cohort of surgically treated patients with displaced fractures of the middle third of the clavicle was performed at the Carlos Andrade Marín Specialties Hospital during the time between January 2016 to December 2017. A total of 47 corresponded to displaced fractures of the middle third, intervened by osteosynthesis with a 3.5mm straight reconstruction plate.

Results: all the operated patients evolved favorably, with little postoperative pain. Bone consolidation was achieved in all of them. Satisfactory mobility was obtained in all cases. Two patients presented complications, such as loosening of the osteosynthesis and angulation of the plate without bone shortening.

Discussion: The choice of the most appropriate treatment for clavicle fracture remains a challenge for the orthopedist. The analysis should be based on the individual characteristics of each patient, careful consideration of the benefits and relative harms of each intervention, as well as the patient’s preferences.

Conclusions: osteosynthesis with plates and screws for displaced fractures of the middle third of the clavicle consolidation and a low rate is a reliable procedure, with an excellent percentage of of complications.
